Big Day Birthday Box

Can you believe there are young people in our community who will turn 18 years old and may never hear the words 'happy birthday’ from loved ones? They may live in group homes or residential treatment centers, have aged out of foster care, or simply do not have family or friends to celebrate them on their special milestone birthday. 

Family Roots for Life invites you to engage in the excitement of honoring these young people by contributing to our Big Day Birthday Box. 

Research shows that celebrating birthdays is important to young people because:

• it strengthens their identity.
• it boosts their self-esteem and social confidence.
• it creates happy memories and a sense of belonging.
• it focuses on sharing joy and celebration.

As a contributor to the Big Day Birthday Box project, you will help us recognize young people transitioning into adulthood and let them know that they are important, worthy, and celebrated.  

HOW TO PARTICIPATE 

A Big Day Birthday Box is a party in a box (or bag). It is filled with festive items such as birthday cards, gift cards, gifts, and other essential decorative birthday items. Individuals, businesses, groups, and families in the community can sponsor a box that Family Roots for Life will present to a young person on their birthday or during their birthday month. 

To support the Big Day Birthday Box project, we prefer to receive monetary donations or gift cards. Family Roots for Life will shop for each birthday recipient and prepare their gift box or bag. Feel free to include/send a positive, uplifting birthday message for the birthday honoree(s). You can sign the card(s) with the first names of the members of your family, friends, or colleagues or by using the name of the business group sponsoring the box.

Family Roots for Life is a remote organization that maintains a virtual office and delivers onsite and virtual supportive services, life skills, mentoring, and community resources to participants. We support a young person’s ability to sustain an independent lifestyle in adulthood and serve participants in Harris County, Fort Bend County, Montgomery County, and areas throughout Greater Houston.
